Roger Waters, the co-founder and principal songwriter of the archetypal progressive band Pink Floyd, has announced the return of the historic production of “The Wall” to North America in 2012. His aural and visual masterpiece of alienation and transformation will be performed in-its-entirety featuring a full band and state-of-the-art production. “The Wall” live has played more than 120 shows around the world for more than 1.6 million fans making it one of the most successful tours of 2010 and 2011.

Coldplay will launch their first North American tour in nearly three years on April 17.  The run, which kicks off in Edmonton, AB, will include the band’s first-ever appearance at the Rose Garden on April 24.  The band is touring in support of its new RIAA-certified Platinum record, Mylo Xyloto, which has scored the most No. 1 rankings of any album this year worldwide. Mylo Xyloto’s first two singles have received GRAMMY nominations – “Every Teardrop is a Waterfall” for Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song, and the Gold-certified “Paradise” for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. Rose Quarter Becomes the Region’s
Largest Publicly Available Electric Vehicle Charging Site
Fans and guests can charge their vehicles while attending an event

Today Portland Trail Blazers President Larry Miller, Christenson Electric President Mark Walter, and Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber unveiled what is now the region’s largest publicly available electric vehicle charging site.

The Rose Quarter has worked with Christenson Electric on other remodels and upgrades to the Rose Quarter campus, so the decision to partner up with them on this project was natural.  Through the partnership, the team officially announced the addition of 10 level-2 Blink charging stations.  Eight of the 10 stations are located in the Garden Garage, and the two additional charging stations are located in the Annex Garage. 

In 2010, the Rose Garden earned the first LEED Gold Certification for a major league venue.  The Rose Garden’s sustainability initiatives include recycling, transportation, energy, gas, water, purchasing, and health.  The Rose Quarter strives to help improve the health of the environment, economy, and community. 

“We are proud to be in a position to add these charging stations to our campus,” said Miller.  It not only aligns with the sustainability goals we have as an organization, it reflects what the NBA is doing in the area of sustainability.  Being leaders in the greening of sports is an ongoing commitment we are passionate about.”

“Between the Trail Blazers’ investment here at the Rose Garden, to the installation of charging stations up and down the I-5 ‘Green Electric Highway,’ Oregon is establishing reliable and efficient infrastructure for electric vehicles,” said Governor Kitzhaber.  “This kind of work doesn’t happen without excellent teamwork, and we appreciate the Trail Blazers’ commitment to helping their fans and all Oregonians access cutting-edge technology that will help us continue to consume less gasoline per capita than the national average”

The launch of the charging stations came just in time for the fourth annual NBA Green Week (April 4 – 11).  Throughout the week, the NBA and its teams and players will encourage fans to be more environmentally friendly and take part in local Green Week initiatives, including hands-on community service projects, recycling programs, green giveaways and promotions to encourage fans to “go green”.
