The Rose Quarter in Portland, OR, includes the 20,000-seat Rose Garden, the 12,000-seat Memorial Coliseum, the 6,500-seat Theater of the Clouds, the 40,000-square foot Exhibit Hall and the Rose Quarter Commons. Home to the NBA Portland Trail Blazers, and the WHL Winter Hawks.
The Rose Garden, designed by the architectural firm Ellerbe Becket of Kansas City, is a $262 million multi-purpose arena that opened in the fall of 1995. The Rose Quarter is the host to a variety of events including NBA and college basketball, professional hockey, indoor track & field, gymnastics, major concerts, monster truck rallies, rodeo and bull riding, circuses, ice shows, boxing and convention and trade shows. Total capacity for NBA Basketball is 19,980 (20,580 with standing room).
The Memorial Coliseum, designed by the architectural firm Skidmore Owings & Merrill (SOM), opened for business on November 1, 1960. A smaller and simpler version of the Rose Garden, the Coliseum has been called home by several Portland-area sports franchises over the years including the Buckaroos of the old Western Hockey League, the Winter Hawks of the current Western Hockey League, and the original home of the Trail Blazers. The Memorial Coliseum is attached to the 40,000-square foot Exhibit Hall and seven meeting rooms.
The Theater of the Clouds is an intimate theater set within the Rose Garden. The Theater of the Clouds features floor to ceiling curtains and an acoustic cloud of panels to enhance sound absorption.
The Commons, Portland’s largest outdoor public plaza, connects the Rose Garden and the Memorial Coliseum and can accommodate up to 5,000 people for outdoor events. Ovations Food Services is the official food and beverage concessionaire for the Rose Quarter.
